New Delhi, 17 August, 2010, Over 60 students from the valley along with the faculty of Kashmir University and Islamic University are in New Delhi for a study tour and peace dialogue on the ongoing situation in the Kashmir valley. The interaction has been organized by Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation, a centre for civilization values and policy research. The delegation from Kashmir is being led by Prof. Siddiq Wahid, Vice Chancellor, Islamic University.
While inaugurating a roundtable conference on “Building Bridges: An Indian Vision for Shared Tomorrow” at the India International Centre in New Delhi today, BJP National President Nitin Gadkari said, “For a political dialogue to take shape on the emerging situation in the Kashmir valley, people need to shed violence.”
He further said, “The real solution to the problem of Kashmir lies in educating its youth and ensuring greater economic reforms in the region”.
Asking the civil society of Kashmir and youth to trust the Indian Constitution, he said, “Kashmir has always been an integral part of India. There will be no compromise on Kashmir’s integration with India. The Indian Constitution guarantees aspirations of all sections of the society.”
Speaking at the roundtable conference, Rajya Sabha MP and Director of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation Tarun Vijay said, “It is the first mass dialogue on Peace ever in the Indian capital which has majority participation from students of Kashmir University and Islamic University, Kashmir along with displaced Kashmiri Pandits living in exile since their exodus in 1990.”
Emphasizing on greater participation of the younger generation from the valley in the political process and development of the country, he said, “In the time to come, Kashmiri youth will lead the nation in different spheres.”
Those present in the roundtable included Shri Bal Apte, Dr, Harsh Vardhan, Shri Arun Singh, Shri Balbir Punj and Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) President Manoj Chowdhary.
Representatives of Roots In Kashmir, a Kashmiri Pandit youth initiative also took part in the discussion.
Later in the day, the delegation went to interact with the Home Minister P. Chidambaram at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The interaction roundtable conference will continue till the 18th August.
